Volunteer Community Guidelines

As a volunteer at YES, you have the opportunity to support, learn from and build friendships with other passionate life-long learners around the world. You’re not required to regularly participate in our community—jump in as much or as little as you’d like, no any work commitment!

Here are a few simple guidelines to keep in mind as you get involved.

1. Respect all team members. We might have learners from all over the world, of all ages, cultures and background. Let’s learn from each-other, and value the different perspectives we each bring to the table. Jokes about the behaviour of other members of our community will not be tolerated.

2. Assume good intentions. Every culture has their own communication style—what may come off as rude or off-putting in one culture is completely polite in another. Give your teammates the benefit of the doubt.

3. Resolve issues through feedback, not gossip. If you have an issue with someone in the community, you can resolve it in three ways: within yourself, directly with the person, or by emailing yesbyyouth@gmail.com.

4. Watch out for each other. If you come across behaviour that makes you or another member of the community, feel unsafe or unwelcome, please immediately report it to yesbyyouth@gmail.com. Your report will be kept confidential.

5. Keep personal boundaries. It’s important that we each keep our personal boundaries so everyone stays safe and so that no one is singled out in a way that could make them uncomfortable. Do not discuss or pursue any romantic involvement with other volunteers.

6. Avoid self-promotion. Do not try to promote your own businesses or projects to other community members, either individually or in a channel, unless it’s relevant to a question someone is asking or unless you’ve received explicit permission from YES.
